R.T.'s Story

On December 23 I celebrated 37 years of sobriety. I am RT, alcoholic.

I celebrated today by going with 18 other guys to a medium security prison to put on a meeting - that is how AA works for me. I was convinced that AA would not work for me. I tried it and got drunk many times and the last time I came here I was helpless and hopeless. A guy held out his hand to me and said come along with us. I can still get goose bumps when I think of it. I was a defiant, arrogant, drunk and this guy asked me to join his group for this journey. I believe in physical sobriety. If I don't drink today I am a success. I am grateful to all of you for my sobriety. I could not do it alone, through you I have found a god and gentleness and kindness.
